How to cancel Figma.
Figma's Professional cancellation is self-serve and runs out of the team's Admin panel. The catch isn't the cancellation flow — it's the Starter plan's hard limits: 3 design files per project, 1 project per team, and any published Figma Sites or Figma Make apps unpublish automatically. Move files out before you cancel or Figma will lock your team from editing them.
What you need ready.
- Team admin or owner role (anyone with edit permission can upgrade a Starter team, but only team admins/owners can cancel Professional).
- Knowledge of which files you actually need access to after downgrade — Starter limits will lock the rest.
- If you're on Organization or Enterprise, a Figma support ticket — those plans require contacting support.
Step-by-step.
Verbatim from the Figma help center on May 19, 2026. We re-verify quarterly.
- Step 01
Open the Professional team in the file browser
In the browser or Figma desktop app, locate the Professional team in the file-browser sidebar. The team has to be the active context — this is a team-level cancellation, not an account-level one.
- Step 02
Open Admin → Settings
Click Admin. Select the Settings tab.
- Step 03
Click Cancel plan in the Plan section
Scroll to the Plan section and click Cancel plan. Figma asks for a cancellation reason; pick the closest match.
- Step 04
Confirm
Click Cancel plan again to confirm. Your team's Professional plan runs until the end of the current billing period, then drops to Starter.
What trips people up.
- Critical
Starter caps lock files from editing
Starter allows 3 design files per project, 1 project per team, and 3 each for FigJam and Figma Slides. If you exceed these limits after downgrade, Figma doesn't just hide files — it prevents you from editing them. Move files to a Drafts space or another team before the cancellation date.
- Critical
Published Figma Sites and Figma Make apps unpublish
Any published Figma Sites or Figma Make apps automatically unpublish on downgrade. If you have a production site running on Figma Sites, it goes dark the moment the plan changes.
- Caution
Payments are non-refundable
Figma states explicitly that subscription payments are non-refundable. If you cancel mid-cycle, you keep access through the end of the paid period but you don't get cash back for the unused months.
- Watch
Seat additions get prorated on the last invoice
If you add seats shortly before cancelling, those seats are prorated and reflected on the final invoice. Expect a non-zero last bill if you added members during the cancellation cycle.
- Caution
Organization and Enterprise aren't self-serve
Cancelling an Organization or Enterprise plan requires contacting Figma support. Plan extra lead time and have your account contact info ready.
What happens to your account.
Cancelling or downgrading does not delete your account or your design files. Files stay in your team after a Professional → Starter downgrade — but if you're over the Starter caps, you can't edit them until you either move them or upgrade again. Account deletion is a separate flow at help.figma.com.
What you get back.
Figma subscription payments are non-refundable. The Professional plan runs to the end of the billing period after cancellation, so you keep the features you paid for until the cycle ends — but no cash refund is issued for unused time.
Lower-friction options.
If you don’t need to fully cancel, one of these often accomplishes what you actually want.
Move files to Drafts before cancelling
Each Figma user has a personal Drafts space that isn't subject to team plan limits. Move files you want to keep editing into Drafts before the downgrade so Starter's per-team caps don't lock them.
Reduce seats instead of cancelling
If the goal is cost reduction, lower the seat count rather than cancelling outright. Removed seats are prorated on the next invoice and the rest of the team retains Professional access.
Cancel one team but keep another
Figma plans are per-team, not per-account. You can cancel a Professional plan on one team while keeping another Professional team active under the same account.
Track the cancellation. Spot the charge that didn’t stop.
Cancelling is one click. Verifying that the charge actually stops on your next statement is the part most people skip. Spendrein watches your bank statement after a cancellation and flags any recurring charge from the same vendor that keeps coming through, so you find out from us before you find out from a surprise renewal invoice.
Spendrein does not impersonate you with vendor support agents or click through their cancellation flows. It tracks what you did, watches for the result on your statement, and gives you a public reference you can share with the vendor if they push back.
Cancelling Figma, plainly explained.
Where is the cancel button in Figma?
It's in the team's Admin panel: file browser → Professional team → Admin → Settings → Plan section → Cancel plan. Figma cancellation is team-scoped, not account-scoped.
Who can cancel a Figma Professional plan?
Team admins or team owners. Members with edit permission can upgrade a Starter team but cannot cancel a paid Professional team.
Will I lose my Figma files when I cancel?
Files aren't deleted, but if the team exceeds Starter limits after the downgrade (3 design files per project, 1 project per team), Figma prevents editing them. Move files out of the team before cancellation to keep editing them.
Can I get a refund for unused months on Figma?
No. Figma states explicitly that subscription payments are non-refundable. Cancelling mid-cycle keeps your Professional features active to the end of the billing period, but no cash refund is issued for the unused portion.
What happens to a published Figma Site or Figma Make app on cancellation?
Published Figma Sites and Figma Make apps automatically unpublish when the team downgrades. If you depend on a Figma Sites page, migrate or re-publish on a different platform before cancellation.
How do I cancel a Figma Organization or Enterprise plan?
Organization and Enterprise cancellations are not self-serve. Contact Figma support through the help center to start the process.
