How to cancel Zoom.

Zoom's cancellation flow is self-serve for plans purchased directly. The cancel runs through the billing portal and the change takes effect at your next renewal. The two things to watch are cloud recordings (deleted 30 days after cancellation) and active add-ons (you have to cancel them first before the base plan).

Before you start

What you need ready.

  • Account Owner, Admin, or a custom role with billing privileges.
  • Any active Zoom add-ons cancelled first — Zoom blocks base-plan cancellation while add-ons are live.
  • Cloud recordings you care about downloaded if you depend on them; access ends 30 days after cancellation.
The flow

Step-by-step.

Verbatim from the Zoom help center on May 19, 2026. We re-verify quarterly.

  1. Step 01

Sign in to the Zoom web portal

Open zoom.us and sign in with the account that holds the subscription.

  2. Step 02

Open Plans and Billing → Plan Management

In the navigation menu, click Plans and Billing, then Plan Management. (The article also describes an Account Management → Billing path for accounts that use the older menu.)

  3. Step 03

Click Manage on the plan you want to cancel

Find the plan you want to cancel and click Manage to the right of it. If you have add-ons, cancel those first using the same flow.

  4. Step 04

    Click Cancel Plan

In the Manage Plan window, click Cancel Plan. If the option is greyed out, your account is not eligible for self-serve cancellation; contact Zoom Support or your Account Executive.

  5. Step 05

    Click Confirm Your Cancellation

Review the cancellation details and click Confirm Your Cancellation. Cancellations become effective on your next renewal date — services continue until the end of your current subscription term.

Gotchas

What trips people up.

  • Critical

Cloud recordings deleted 30 days after cancellation

Cancelling the paid base plan revokes access to cloud recordings, and Zoom permanently deletes them 30 days after cancellation. Download anything you want to keep before the window closes.

  • Critical

Add-ons must be cancelled before the base plan

If you have active add-ons (Large Meetings, Cloud Storage, Audio Conferencing, etc.), Zoom blocks base-plan cancellation until those are cancelled. Same flow, just hit them first.

  • Caution

    Greyed-out Cancel Plan means sales-only

If the Cancel Plan button is greyed out or missing, the account isn't on the self-serve track — typically because it was purchased via a direct sales quote. You'll need to email your Account Executive or contact Zoom Support.

  • Caution

Mobile-store purchases cancel through the store

Subscriptions purchased through Apple App Store or Google Play don't cancel in the Zoom portal. Cancel through the device's app-store subscription management instead.

  • Caution

Direct-sales quote terms run to the contract end

Plans purchased through Zoom Sales follow the quote's subscription term. Cancellations and other changes take effect at the end of the contract period stated on the quote — not immediately.

Data after cancellation

What happens to your account.

Zoom does not delete your account or your meeting history on cancellation. The notable exception is cloud recordings: access ends at cancellation and the recordings are permanently deleted 30 days later unless you subscribe to a plan with cloud recordings inside that window. To remove the account entirely after cancellation, follow Zoom's separate account-deletion flow once your current term ends.

Refund policy

What you get back.

The cancellation article does not publish a refund schedule — it refers users to Zoom's Terms of Service. Cancellation takes effect on the next renewal date, so you keep paid features through the end of the current subscription term but are not refunded for unused months.

Alternatives

Lower-friction options.

If you don’t need to fully cancel, one of these often accomplishes what you actually want.

  • Reactivate before the cancellation takes effect

If you change your mind, the same Plan Management page exposes a Reactivate button → Proceed & Reactivate as long as you're still inside the current subscription term. The cancellation reverts and billing resumes.

  • Switch to a smaller plan instead of cancelling

From the same Manage Plan flow you can change tier (e.g. Business → Pro) rather than going to Free. Useful if you want lower cost but still need paid features like cloud recordings.

After you cancel

Track the cancellation. Spot the charge that didn’t stop.

Cancelling is one click. Verifying that the charge actually stops on your next statement is the part most people skip. Spendrein watches your bank statement after a cancellation and flags any recurring charge from the same vendor that keeps coming through, so you find out from us before you find out from a surprise renewal invoice.

Spendrein does not impersonate you with vendor support agents or click through their cancellation flows. It tracks what you did, watches for the result on your statement, and gives you a public reference you can share with the vendor if they push back.

Questions

Cancelling Zoom, plainly explained.

  • Where is the Zoom cancel button?

Sign in to zoom.us → Plans and Billing → Plan Management → Manage (next to the plan) → Cancel Plan → Confirm Your Cancellation. If your account uses the older menu, the path is Account Management → Billing → Current Plans → Cancel Plan.

  • Who can cancel a Zoom subscription?

The account owner, admins, and any custom role granted billing privileges. Regular members can't change billing.

  • What happens to my Zoom cloud recordings when I cancel?

Access to cloud recordings ends at cancellation. Zoom permanently deletes them 30 days later unless you resubscribe to a plan with cloud recordings inside that window. Download what you want to keep before the period ends.

  • Why is Zoom's Cancel Plan button greyed out?

Usually because the account isn't on Zoom's self-serve billing — typically a direct-sales quote. Email your Account Executive or open a Zoom Support ticket to cancel through the contract path.

  • Can I get a refund for unused Zoom months?

The cancellation article doesn't publish a refund schedule; it points to Zoom's Terms of Service. Default behavior is that you keep paid features until the end of your current subscription term, with no automatic refund for unused time.

  • How do I cancel Zoom if I bought it through the App Store?

Cancel through Apple's or Google's subscription management on the device — Zoom's portal doesn't manage app-store-purchased subscriptions.
